         James Michael Stevens was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1961 and fell in love with music from an early age. He has spent much of his life acquiring what can only be described as a monumentally impressive music education. He is now a prolific composer residing in Nashville, TN where he serves as the Music Department Chairman at Welch College. He is known internationally for his choral anthems, piano arrangements/compositions, and piano improvisation workshops. Dr. Stevens' music can be heard on Pandora Radio, Spotify, and many music venues around the world. He is a published composer with many companies including Shawnee Press, Hal Leonard, Alfred, Warner Brothers, LifeWay, Brentwood/Benson, Fred Bock, Lorenz,  Hinshaw, The Piano Guild, Sunmin Music (Korea), and  others.
        James' impressive education in music began with a Bachelor of General Studies in Music and Humanities from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama in 1985. He went on to acquire the Master of Church Music degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky in 1995.  Finally in 2004 he achieved his doctorate with the Doctor of Musical Arts and Composition degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
​        James' resume is a work of art in itself ....here are a just a few highlights: He has performed or recorded music in over 20 countries around the world. He has over 20 years experience in the church music ministry. He has extensive professional experience in music transcription and music engraving, and in fact, engraves his own music. He was in the Who's Who in America - Marquis' 60th Anniversary Edition, 2005. 
        James is the founder of StevenSong Publishing & Jimbo and Friends Music (purchased by Shawnee Press). He is the winner of numerous ASCAP Standard Awards for Composition. He is a published composer of over 350 compositions with numerous national companies. He has been a columnist and Senior Music and Culture Advisor for worldwide newspaper, "Christian Today," and he was presented with the Welch College Academic Advisor of the Year Award for 2012-2013. 
       James has co-written an internationally successful song with Joseph M. Martin entitled "Without Love....We Have Nothing." This song is contained on over 200 different commercial CDs, having been recorded in South Korea, China, Japan, Europe, and the United States. With more than 450 performances of the song on YouTube, it is now being sold and exported all over the world in virtually every musical format.  A video of this beautiful song is presented below for your enjoyment.
        While today, James retains his position as the Music Department Chairman at the Welch College in Nashville, he continues to compose, publish, record and produce the beautiful music that we and all his fans have come to know and love.
